Putnam City West HS Arena

This 2022 project attaches to the existing campus to provide a FEMA tornado shelter for the entire school population. The design takes advantage of the arena's concrete seating bowl to create the shelter lid over the areas required. Using the locker rooms, sports training space, and circulation spaces under the bleachers provides a cost-efficient design that maximizes Putnam City Schools' bond dollars and meets FEMA requirements for 1,800 people. The 1,200-seat arena includes a hospitality suite, concessions, premium individual seating on the arena floor, coaching offices, meeting rooms, and gallery space in the main circulation area to honor the school’s history and student accomplishments.
